Native Bee Tour & Healing Honey

Just 20 minutes from La Fortuna, out in the countryside with Arenal Volcano in the background, we take you to a meliponary where you'll discover the world of native stingless bees. It's a conservation project that cares for around 9 species, giving a home and food to them and to other pollinators that are essential to nature.

The experience begins with a friendly talk about the origin of bees and what makes stingless species so special. Then we walk through the meliponary at an easy pace, spotting Costa Rica's native bees and learning why they're so important to tropical ecosystems and how they make their honey.

Along the way comes one of the favorite moments: tasting 15 tropical honeys, both monofloral and multifloral, right at the base of each hive. Each one has its own flavor, color, texture and many of them will surprise you.

Next, we head to the healing garden, where you'll learn about medicinal plants and their benefits, and taste a blend of honeys infused with their essential oils. To finish, we make the most of honey's benefits for the skin with a facial mask made from natural ingredients, a calm and relaxing way to end the visit.

It's an ideal experience for families, couples and curious travelers looking for something different in La Fortuna, closer to local life who want to support a project that protects life, starting with its smallest creatures.
